Plot Summary

Rooney Mara stars in this coming-of-age drama about love, friendship, and heartbreak, set in an elite New England private school. Fernanda’s (Rooney Mara of THE SOCIAL NETWORK, THE WINNING SEASON, DARE, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) senior year of high school threatens to be awful when new girl queen bee Victoria (Georgia King of BBC’s LITTLE DORRIT) shakes up the social order with her conniving schemes. Usually the voice of reason, Fernanda decides to fight back. But when a friendship with an older man (Tom Everett Scott of TV’s SOUTHLAND, THAT THING YOU DO!) becomes complicated, Fernanda realizes she might lose everything.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Rarely rises above the generic, though its atmosphere of coddled young people indulging themselves in opulent surroundings is palpably authentic. – Andy Webster, New York Times, Sep 9, 2011

Rotten: Allows room for a lot of thinking about other things - its cast most notably, since watching their struggle to move beyond the mundane is painful. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, Sep 8, 2011

Rotten: There are some dedicated performances, but this unfocused drama adds nothing new to the girls' boarding school film curriculum. – Michael Rechtshaffen, Hollywood Reporter, Sep 8, 2011

Rotten: [A] tale of teenage rivalry, forbidden romance and other musty coming-of-age concerns. – Nick Schager, Village Voice, Sep 6, 2011
