Plot Summary

Loyal veteran Navy S.E.A.L. Lt. A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) is sent into the heart of war-torn Africa on a hazardous mission to rescue Dr. Lena Hendricks (Monica Bellucci), a U.S. citizen who runs a missionary. When the beautiful doctor refuses to abandon the refugees in her care, Lt. Waters finds himself having to choose between following orders and the dictates of his own conscience. Together, they begin a dangerous trek through the deadly jungle, all the while being pursued by a rebel militia group, with only one goal in mind: to assassinate Lt. Waters' unit and the refugees in his care.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Fuqua ... can stage action, but he can't save a trivializing, reactionary script featuring a Hollywood star (read America) as a global savior. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Nov 24, 2006

Rotten: The movie might have gotten a dramatic boost from its topical theme, indirect as it is. Unfortunately, it's not one-tenth as interesting as what you can see at home during a nightly cable surf as U.S. war policy is debated. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: This Black Hawk Down theft is a trial by cliche. – Michael Atkinson, Village Voice, Mar 12, 2003

Rotten: Will a thinking audience really buy the image of helpless, grateful people bestowing kisses and victory songs upon Willis as the representative of all things American: power, guts, compassion? – Jami Bernard, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Bruce Rocks!!!

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"-Edmund Burke. This powerful quote is shown at the end of one of my favorite movies of all time (and Willis' best in my opinion). This movie shows the horrors of ethnic cleansing that is still going on around the world, and brave men who risk their lives to save the victims of it's brutality. Very touching movie!!! A++++++

Powerful! A downright awesome film!

Emotional, tense and incredible acting.
This movie also features some of the most beautiful scenery that I have ever seen in a movie. Lighting is great as well as composition. And for all you people who like action there are some pretty intense, big explosions. Besides all the guns and grenades this movie has a great story and great characters that are well played out. This not just another shoot-em’-up war film. Whenever someone dies you feel it. And whenever there is a happy moment you feel it also.
The action isn’t wall to wall. But the movie is by no means slow. There are a lot of twists and you really don’t know who is going to die and who will live even right up to the end. When the action does hit, it hits HARD! And you enjoy it more because there is always a big build up.
Great movie and you cannot lose buying it.
So Buy, Buy, BUY NOW!!!

His second best movie!

We all know that Bruce Willis' Die Hard films were his best, but this movie is one of those gems that's not spoken of much. Not only does it inform people of ethnic cleansing going on in some parts of the world, but it has a great story, sexual tension between Willis and Bellucci and great action! If you really enjoy this movie, watch another by Willis called Hostage. It seems that Willis and his management enjoy picking interesting plot lines that don't have to be blockbusters, but still have tons of blockbuster quality. Enjoy!
