Plot Summary
This modernistic fantasy-drama, is about a New York architect Phillip (John Cassavetes), who is fed up with city living. He takes his wife Antonia (Gena Rowlands), an actress, and their daughter, Miranda (Molly Ringwald in her debut), to Greece to a barren island. Re-working of the Shakespeare Play
This is a modern-day version of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," with Cassavetes in the Prospero role. Contrary to the reviewer, he doesn't take his wife to the island: they are separated, and he takes his girlfriend, Susan Sarandon, to the island along with their daughter (Ringwald). Interesting, but ultimately it fails either as a modern fable or as an interesting take on The Bard.
Great acting
I'm not sure that it's important that this movie is true or untrue to Shakespeare.
The acting is great, especially Cassavetes. It also makes me miss
Raul Julia. He was an amazing actor.
I really enjoyed it. It's one of those movies I like to watch again every
year or so.
The Tempest
An enjoyable movie. The acting is top-notch. Raul Julia is delightful. And hang in to the ending with Dinah Washington's song "We'll take Manhattan". I will purchase this.
