Plot Summary

TEXAS CHAINSAW continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" leaves audiences feeling hollowed out, dispirited and dissolute. "Texas Chainsaw 3D" is simply a bummer for being a big nothing. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Jan 5, 2013

Rotten: In-your-face 3D and a half-hearted attempt at psychological complexity add little to this umpteenth Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jan 4, 2013

Rotten: Try as [Luessenhop] might to honor the original -- flashbulb transitions, a skeevy (yet buff) hitchhiker, metal doors, and meat hooks -- there's little of its mounting dread. – Pete Vonder Haar, Village Voice, Jan 5, 2013

Rotten: All the makers of "Texas Chainsaw 3D" cared about was getting your $16. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Jan 5, 2013

Very entertaining and original.

I can see why some people don't like this film, as it's a bit cheesy and far-fetched. But it was differen't than the other Chainsaw movies. It wasn't the same ol' crazy cannibal family who picks off teenagers and one chick runs through the whole film. It had a different and original plot. It was a gutsy sequal and was far better than all the other sequals to the original 1974 film. This is how Chainsaw 2 (1986) SHOULD have been. It's not like this is the first Chainsaw movie to be far-fetched. Take a long at Next Generation and Chainsaw 2. This was entertaining and different.

Pretty good, except for the mistakes in the timeline..

Okay, I saw Texas Chainsaw 3D in theaters opening night, and loved it, its really scary, and gory, but it dosent really develop the characters, and there are a few mistakes that caught my attention. Its based on the original from 1974, and all of the people are young... 21-24 Im guessing, therefore about 21 years later, which would mean it takes place somewhere around 1995... a cop takes out a SMARTPHONE at the crime scene, and theres a bunch of other mistakes like that present. Overall its pretty good, but it could have been beter.
