Plot Summary

Based on Christopher Buckley's acclaimed 1994 novel of the same title and adapted for the screen by Jason Reitman, Thank You for Smoking is a fiercely satirical look at today's culture of spin! Aaron Eckhart stars as Nick Naylor, a sexy, charismatic spin-doctor for Big Tobacco who'll fight to protect America's right to smoke - even if it kills him. When he incurs the wrath of a senator (William H. Macy) bent on snuffing out cigarettes, Nick's powers of "filtering the truth" will be put to the test. With a smokin' all-star cast that includes Rob Lowe, Maria Bello, Katie Holmes, Adam Brody and Robert Duvall, this hilarious comedy will prove seriously addictive!

Welcome relief

In an age of political correctness and hyper-sensitivity to the smallest of things, this movie provides a much-needed slap in the face if only to serve as a short-lived reminder that life is already too serious, that we need not add to that fact and that we should laugh more often. Hilariously playing off of the facts and rhetoric surrounding the dangers of smoking and simultaneously mocking both those making a living defending such and those against it, this fast-paced flick manages to transcend mere situationally-relevant, short-term satire to deliver a greater message about relationships and being true to ourselves and other important stuff. The film itself is tightly cut, free of unnecessary bloat and features a good soundtrack of tunes. If you're grounded enough to be able to laugh at yourself, give this a shot. If you're a serious type, this movie probably isn't for you.

Brilliant.

In a day and age when we all so desperately seek to blame tobacco companies for the millions of deaths this movie gives that a comedic twist with blatant truth. Its wonderful...and remember kids,"don't do drugs smoke ciggarettes"

Brilliant

It's a must see movie for anyone who takes a public speech class.
