Plot Summary

Nothing equals The Birds for sheer terror when Alfred Hitchcock unleashes his foul friends in one of his most shocking and memorable masterpieces. As beautiful blonde Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) rolls into Bodega Bay in pursuit of eligible bachelor Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), she is inexplicably attacked by a seagull. Suddenly thousands of birds are flocking into town, preying on schoolchildren and residents in a terrifying series of attacks. Soon Mitch and Melanie are fighting for their lives against a deadly force that can't be explained and can't be stopped in one of Hollywood's most horrific films of nature gone berserk.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Mr. Hitchcock and his associates have constructed a horror film that should raise the hackles of the most courageous and put goose-pimples on the toughest hide. – Bosley Crowther, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Drawing from the relatively invisible literary talents of Daphne DuMaurier and Evan Hunter, Alfred Hitchcock has fashioned a major work of cinematic art, and "cinematic" is the operative term here, not "literary" or "sociological." – Andrew Sarris, Village Voice, Jan 18, 2013

Fresh: Hitch's much misappreciated follow-up to Psycho is arguably the greatest of all disaster films -- a triumph of special effects, as well as the fountainhead of what has become known as gross-out horror. – J. Hoberman, Village Voice, Jan 18, 2013

Fresh: Few films depict so eerily yet so meticulously the metaphysical and historical sense of a world out of joint. – Richard Brody, New Yorker, Oct 9, 2012

Hitchcock at his best!

I'm a huge Hitchcock fan, largely because of the attention to detail of his movies. This attribute is definately evident in "The Birds". Every small detail in the direction of this movie, such as the lack of music and the positioning of the camera(especially in the scene where Tippi Hedrin is being attacked by seagulls), adds up to create a deliciously suspenseful and eerie film. A true classic!

Suspenseful, iconic, and original

"The Birds" is one of those few movies that you must see at one point or another. It's a classic. I highly recommend this film to any fan of good cinema.

You won't regret buying this!

Great movie. Tippi Hedren is amazing as Melanie Daniels. Very disturbing and frightening movie that leaves you with lots of questions at the end! Hitchcock at his best.
