Plot Summary
They were five students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their high school library. At 7 a.m., they had nothing to say, but by 4 p.m. they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends. John Hughes, creator of the critically acclaimed Sixteen Candles, wrote, directed and produced this hilarious and often touching comedy starring Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. To the outside world they were simply the Jock, the Brain, the Criminal, the Princess and the Kook, but to each other, they would always be The Breakfast Club.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The Breakfast Club doesn't need earthshaking revelations; it's about kids who grow willing to talk to one another, and it has a surprisingly good ear for the way they speak.
Fresh: In The Breakfast Club, Hughes has created a surprisingly enduring motion picture that is still effective 13 years after its theatrical debut.
Fresh: John Hughes's 1985 film seems meant to explain 80s youngsters to yesterday's youth, and comes to the comforting conclusion that they're just as alienated, idealistic, and vulnerable as the baby boomers of the 1960s.
Fresh: In nine hours of threatening, bickering and, eventually, poignant (but never maudlin) self-revelation, the stereotypes dissolve and re-form.

Detention has never been so interesting!
The Breakfast Club is an 80's classic, and timeless to the ages. It's common theme of teenage angst speaks to people of all ages and genders. Who, at one point in their life, wasn't labled something? The kids of The Breakfast Club each show us that no matter what you might be labled, by the end of this movie you will find that inside of you there is "In the simplest terms and most convenient definitions: A brain...and an athlete...and a basket case...a princess...and a criminal." Though this movie seems superficial on the outside, there is much to learn from these teenagers. It oversteps boundaries to find that even the most seemingly perfect of people are damaged. Through John Bender, Allison Reynolds, Andrew Clarke, Brian Johnson, and Claire Johnson were stuck in the library for a boring Saturday detention, this is one day that none of them will soon forget. They find parts of themselves they didn't know existed, and learned that they were more like each other then they would've ever thought. This movie has a perfect mix of drama, and comedy. It often breaks up the really intense parts of the movie with some form of comedic relief. This is a great movie, and although I recommend it to everyone, I obviously wouldn't show it to someone under the age of 14.
