Plot Summary

With a rag-tag crew at his side, and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

A SWASHBUCKLING GOOD TIME!

Aardman Animation Studios' latest feature film "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" is a zany, rapid-fire animated comedy that delivers the laughs from start to finish. With a top-notch voice cast and a brilliantly clever collection of gags, the film almost often feels like an old-fashioned cartoon, in a "Looney Tunes"-esque way. The characters (especially the pirate crew) are all hilariously absurd in their own strange way, which makes them so interesting to watch. For instance, one of the crew members is a curvaceous woman with a fake beard, and yet none of the other pirates can ever see beyond her disguise. I could list many more examples, but that'd probably take too long. As for the claymation, it's absolutely gorgeous. Every single visual is intricately sculpted to the last detail, and the massive scale of it all makes the whole production feel even more droll and grand than it already is. Perhaps the best thing I can say about "Pirates!" is that it's fun without feeling forced. The humor is so entertaining because it literally appeals to all ages. The gags have great comic timing and the hilarious voice acting is full of nonstop energy. I honestly can't tell you how many times I laughed during this film, but it was definitely more than once, that's for sure. And although I can't help but praise the film for its stellar comedy and animation, I'll admit that I was a bit let down by the story. It was relatively simple compared to the plots of Aardman's other flicks, and the eventual outcome was slightly predictable. But nevertheless, I still enjoyed "Band of Misfits" for what it had to offer. Deliriously fast-paced, visually stunning, and full of witty British humor, the film entertained me the whole way through and easily became one of my favorite animated movies of the year so far. If you have the time, I definitely recommend checking it out. It's just one of those family flicks that you'll have a great time watching, no matter how old you are.

Nice family movie

Refreshing to see people making fun film's. My teenage daughters loved it so it is not too kiddy. For adults it was witty and silly. I recommend it on a night when everyone needs a laugh. If you liked "Wallace and Grammet" then you like this movie as well.

Funny
