Plot Summary
Evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties hoping they will let him harness the magical Smurf-essence. However, he soon discovers that he needs the help of Smurfette, who knows the secret to turning the Naughties into real Smurfs. When Gargamel and his Naughties kidnap Smurfette from Smurf Village and bring her to Paris, it’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity to reunite with their human friends, Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her!

Smurfs rock
This is with out doubt my favorite movie. I love it. Hacks is my favorite. I got smurf posters everywhere in my room smurf action figures smurfs build a bears I love this movie. Show it to your kids. It's a great family movie
NO SMURFIN' SURPRISES HERE
The biggest problem with successful bad movies is that when it comes time to make a sequel, there's simply no incentive to make it better. If people are willing to settle for lowest-common denominator material, there just isn't much sense in putting any extra effort the second time around. And like many terrible family flicks before it, Raja Gosnell's "The Smurfs 2" fully lives up to its rock-bottom expectations (surprise, surprise). When evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) creates a couple of Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties (Christina Ricci, J.B. Smoove) with the hope that they will let him harness the Smurf-essence, he realizes that he needs the help of Smurfette (Katy Perry), who knows the secret of turning Naughties into actual Smurfs. So Gargamel and his misfit Naughties kidnap Smurfette and bring her to Paris, and it's pretty much up to Papa (Jonathan Winters), Grumpy (George Lopez), Clumsy (Anton Yelchin), and Vanity (John Oliver) to reunite with Patrick and Grace Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays), and rescue her. Much like the first flick, "The Smurfs 2" is excessively filled with foul toilet humor targeted at the youngest members of the audience. Not only does most of the comedy consist of horrible puns, but this movie's laziness really shines through in the fact that most of the jokes and gags are repeated multiple times without any actual sense of irony or cleverness. It's the kind of bland stuff that makes you wonder if the filmmakers even watched the final cut before it was shipped off to theaters. A few live-action/animated films are at least able to skate by with a less-than-stellar script thanks to quality work by the animators, but in this movie, even that small aspect is a mixed bag. While most of the Smurfs are colorfully rendered in eye-popping 3D, other digitized creatures like Azrael (Gargamel's cat) are hideously animated. As for the story, it's as predictable as they come in a flick of this quality, and it's almost entirely forgettable due to the studio's continually shameless attempts at product placement in nearly each scene. Terrible as the script may be, I will, at the very least, stand up for the film's central theme. Playing on two separate levels (both between Papa Smurf and Smurfette and between Patrick and his stepfather Victor (Brendan Gleeson), this movie makes the argument that where you come from doesn't matter just as much as the kind of person you choose to be, and that's a legitimately nice moral to teach to young audiences. Of course, it's handled with all of the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face, but the quality of the message does take away a bit of the sting. I could go on for quite a while explaining the many problems with "The Smurfs 2," from its continued lack of development for supporting characters to the fact that a giant chunk of the movie could easily be mistaken for a tablet computer commercial, but what good would that do? The movie just is what it is: a quick, cheap, and easily forgettable diversion that'll keep the kids distracted for a little under two hours. And seeing as how there's gonna be another "Smurfs" sequel, set to be released in 2015, it looks like Hollywood is just gonna keep on milking Peyo's iconic cartoon creations for all they're worth. What a shame, but hey, you can still do much worse than this in terms of entertainment.
