Plot Summary
Darkness has descended over the northwestern town of Cold Rock. One by one, its children are disappearing. They leave behind neither clues nor credible witnesses, but instead a legend, a story cloaked in shadows passed from neighbor to neighbor… And with it, a building sense of terror which threatens to devour what’s left of the community itself. Superstitious locals talk of ‘The Tall Man,’ a mysterious figure who takes the children away, never to be seen again. But Julia Denning (Jessica Biel) has no time for legends or superstitions. A nurse doing her best for the emotionally distraught and economically devastated former mining town, she tries instead to preserve a semblance of normality both at work and at home. Until terror enters her own front door. Waking up in the middle of the night, she races to her child’s bedroom, only to discover an empty bed – and a hulking specter in the downstairs doorway who steals off into the darkness with her boy (Jakob Davies). As Julia follows in pursuit, she will stop at nothing and will risk everything to save him. Joined by determined investigator, Lt. Dodd (Stephen McHattie) and the town’s local sheriff (William B. Davis), the chase is on and with it the quest for answers: Who is ‘The Tall Man’? What has become of the children? Soon, the town of Cold Rock will have the answers it so desperately seeks, answers that will shake the community to its core. A suspense-filled thriller like no other, THE TALL MAN mines a corrosive world of fear and terror before ultimately revealing its own unimaginable truth.

Fresh: "The Tall Man" opens like a ghost story and closes with its feet firmly in the real world. Until then, Pascal Laugier's chilly little thriller manhandles our sympathies and gladdens our eyes in almost equal measure.
Rotten: Long on atmosphere and short on sense, "The Tall Man" becomes less gripping as it grows more ridiculous.
Rotten: Once you get through the flaming, Bowser's Castle-like gauntlet of the rest of the story's implausibilities, you end up in a different movie than the one on the creepy poster.
Fresh: If you're a parent who ever, for one cold-sweat second, lost sight of your child at a playground - "The Tall Man" will tap into your darkest fears. And then make them even darker.

Fantastic film, but poorly marketed as a horror.
This movie was fantastic. The story is original and challenges the viewer to change their perception of the events at multiple times throughout. A word of advice however; do not expect this film to be a horror as the trailer and synopsis would like you to believe. It is more of a thought provoking thriller. Outside of the basic synopsis that iTunes provides, The Tall Man is a psychological thriller that will leave the viewer to decide how they feel about the events as they unfold. Overall, a truly unique experience, and one that I worry many will miss out on because of poor marketing.
Guys
It's not a Slenderman movie...
DID NOT SEE THIS ENDING COMING!
My review will be brief for I do not want to give ANYthing away. The acting is great, and the story is OUTSTANDING!!! This is one of the best movies I have seen in regards to the storyline, in a long time. I do not know if I would classify it as a full horror movie or not though. It did have some horror elements, thriller, and drama.
The story begins in a small, poor town in which the main source of employment, a mine, has closed. The closure of the mine has caused most of the residents to become unemployed and without any other resources around, the town itself starts to wither away. Along with that, the children of the town start disappearing. Some people say they have seen a "tall man" at night, and a legend is born.
I recommend this movie to fans of horror, suspense, thriller, and even drama. I do want to say again that this is not a full blown "horror" movie such as "The Ring", "The Shining", "Friday the 13th", etc.. It is more of a Suspense/Drama or Thriller.
