Plot Summary
Down a seedy city street, a young woman is obsessed with what appears to be a long abandoned theatre. One night, she sees the front door slightly ajar and impulsively decides to sneak inside. But there in the vast, eerie auditorium, a show unlike any other unfolds before her eyes. Its host is an odd marionette-like man who will introduce her to six tales of the truly bizarre: A couple traveling in a remote part of the French Pyrenees crosses paths with a lustful witch; A paranoid lover faces the wrath of a partner who has been pushed to her limit; The Freudian dreams of an unfaithful husband blur the lines between fantasy and reality; The horrors of the real world are interpreted through the mind of a child; A woman addicted to other people's memories gets her fix through the fluid of her victims’ eyeballs; And a perverse obsession with sweets turns sour for a couple in too deep. But as the stories unfold, something strange is happening to the woman. Something irreversible and horrific. Something that awaits its next audience in THE THEATRE BIZARRE. Directed by Douglas Buck (Sisters, Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America) , Buddy Giovinazzo (Combat Shock, Life is Hot in Cracktown), David Gregory (Plague Town), Karim Hussain (The Beautiful Beast, Subconscious Cruelty), Jeremy Kasten (The Wizard of Gore (2007)), Tom Savini (Tales from the Darkside, Night of the Living Dead), and Richard Stanley (Hardware, Dust Devil)

Rotten: These elements may be shocking and even bizarre. But, like a lot of midnight-movie provocations, they soon turn predictable.

Grand Guignol
In fact this is Grand Guignol. Both in the literal French meaning (Big Puppet) or as the Theatre Grand-Guignol in Paris featuring live performances of the grotesque and bizarre. This anthology with a wrap around featuring Udo Kier is grotesque and bizarre. As in most anthologies, some stories are better than others, but overall….very satisfying.
Just for effort
I get the theme is relationships, in some twisted sort of way even the little girl/mother--father/dead son one, but the similarity stops there. It's very all over the place like Tales from the Crypt (series not movie).
I wanted to like this. It's indie, it's subversive, hard to find style horror, a little risqué, but it didnt fully deliver. Not that I was expecting A Serbian Film, but a little shock would help every now and again. The only one cringe-worthy was Sweets. And I'm gonna get hated on this one but think about it. This was nearly vomit inducing and I dug the twist and story, it was original and horrific--you've never seen nothing like that--and I've seen everything, or thought I had.
Could've been more, but it VHS'd us. New phrase from now on with all these lackluster anthology horrors.
hmmm
havnt seen the movie but the music in the trailer was awsome.
