Plot Summary

"The Trouble With Bliss tells the story of 35-year-old Morris Bliss (Michael C. Hall), who is clamped firmly in the jaws of New York City inertia. He wants to travel but has no money; he needs a job but has no prospects; and he still shares an apartment with his widowed father (Peter Fonda), who treats Morris with a mix of disdain and exasperation. When he finds himself juggling a bizarre relationship with the sexually precocious 18-year-old daughter (Brie Larson) of a former classmate (Brad William Henke) and the advances of his very forward neighbor (Lucy Liu), Morris begins to realize that even though his life is unraveling, it’s also opening up in ways that are long overdue."

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The kind of movie that gives a bad name to the concept of "quirky." – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Mar 22, 2012

Rotten: Without much actual character to latch on to, most of the actors seem lost and awkward, even the usually dependable Hall. – Ian Buckwalter, NPR, Mar 27, 2012

Rotten: Knowles and Light indulge in so many indie cliches, their movie could be used as a film-school case study. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Mar 22, 2012

Rotten: Striving mightily to be the indie equivalent of a wacky sitcom, "The Trouble With Bliss" fails to draw much humor from farcical situations. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Mar 23, 2012

An original

If you like cookie cutter boring movies this isn't for you. The characters are so great and there quirky lives are well told.. Go on and see it's a great slice of New York life

Rotten Tomatoes is Wrong!!!

This is a quirky and interesting little film. I say little only because it's an indie film done on a small budget.
The cast is first rate; and they tell an interesting story here.
But, be careful this not an action film; there is no CGI; this is a people story. And anyone who likes those
kinds of films will find things to like about this film.

A Great Movie Worth Seeing!

I had the opportunity to see "The Trouble With Bliss" before opening weekend and could not wait for it to become available for everyone to see! If you are a fan of Michael C. Hall, Peter Fonda, Lucy Liu, or any of the other great cast, you will love this movie! Michael Knowles directs this charming story so well that you will want to watch it over and over again. Don't believe me? Watch it yourself!
