Plot Summary

THEODORE ROOSEVELT: A COWBOY'S RIDE TO THE WHITE HOUSE is the exciting story of a physically challenged young man from Harvard who came to the western frontier in 1883. Theodore Roosevelt bought a ranch, learned how to ride, shoot, hunt and acquired the skills that would make him a war hero and American President. It was in the Badlands of Dakota where young Roosevelt became a cowboy and learned about democracy and the American West. Filmed on location at the Roosevelt ranches in the heart of the beautiful and wild Badlands of North Dakota and brought to life by nationally acclaimed historians H.W. Brands, Douglas Brinkley, Clay Jenkinson, and great-grandson Tweed Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt: A Cowboys Ride To The White House

This is a great documentary. It's beautifully written and filmed. It tells the story, with the help of major Roosevelt historians, of how TR came to the Badlands of Dakota, became a cowboy and began his trek to the White House.

Great history, wonderful documentary!

Great documentary.

I really enjoyed this new and different look at one of our most important Presidents. This captures an entirely different understanding of what this man was all about. You have to read about the fistfight in the bar Teddy had with a local cowboy who was making fun of how this easterner looked. It was the last time a cowboy made fun of a member of the boxing team at Harvard. This is a lively and interesting new view of this original American.

Great documentary!

As an admirer of TR, I enjoyed this new documentary about our cowboy president's years in North Dakota. TR often said that he would not have become president if not for his time in North Dakota, and with all the challenges he had to overcome just to survive in the Badlands, it is easy to see why. He arrived a privileged Easterner, but his life in the Badlands transformed him into the true cowboy who would ride all the way to the White House. Well written, beautifully shot and edited, with never before seen photos taken by TR himself! Highly recommended.
