Plot Summary

From the acclaimed director of the global hit Old Boy comes a shockingly original vampire story with a chilling, erotic style. A blood transfusion saves the life of a priest, but also transforms him into a vampire. He struggles to control his insatiable thirst for blood until a love affair unleashes his darkest desires in deadly new ways. Hailed as “Daring, operatic, and bloody funny!” (Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly), Thirst is a truly wicked love story that takes classic vampire lore to twisted new heights.

If you hate the Twilight craze...

Then maybe this is more your kind of vampire film.

The "eternal love" theme that most vampire movies portray is stretched beyond all limits in this fun, gory, pervasive, wild film. While the love between the two main characters is just as real as can be, it still leaves you with a sickly uncomfortable feeling that you just cannot shake, even after the end credits role.

This movie is guarenteed to change your opinion about the modern vampire love story.

Park's most accomplished film yet

I never could figure out the fuss over Old Boy. It was stylish though obviously indebted to Hong Kong auteurs like Wong Kar-wai, but very short on narrative or credible character development. What followed from Park was iffy at best - Lady Vengeance, I'm Cyborg - and certainly did little to convince me that the critical accolades were justified. Thirst, however, shows Park at his most deft. It's a dark comic vampire film that has some surprising moments of visual and psychological acuity. Well done. Worth renting.
