Plot Summary
Jean Simmons, Paul Douglas and Anthony Franciosa star in producer Joe Pasternak's delightful production which was called "the kind of movie audiences hunger for but all too infrequently get". Anne Leeds (Simmons) is a schoolteacher looking for part-time work. She lands a job as a secretary at a nightclub, working for two partners: Rocco (Douglas), a nice, decent type of guy who has Anne's best interests at heart, and Tony (Franciosa), a handsome swinger for whom Anne falls, much to Rocco's chagrin. Adding a bit of spice – and some musical entertainment – to the story are Joan Blondell, Julie Wilson, J. Carrol Naish, ZaSu Pitts and more in supporting roles.

This Could Be The Night
Being a huge Anthony Franciosa fan, I first saw this movie more than a decade ago on American Movie Classics; didn't know it even existed. There are elements of the story that now seem a little dated given the time it was made, but the love story in the midst of it all is timeless. Jean Simmons is wonderful as the pristine "girl next door" and Franciosa is equally charming as a hard bitten lothario who at first spurns the thought of any contact with his bosses new secretary....but then finds himself protective of her while at the same time falling in love with her. It's a fun, heartwarming story, with one of the greatest supporting "casts from the past".
