Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Apparently Apatow's penchant for if-it's-not-broke filmmaking isn't changing anytime soon. And it's a shame, because while This is 40 has plenty of laughs, it lacks decency and heart.
Rotten: "This Is 40" tends to be about the self-inflicted problems of spoiled upper-middle class white people. Which can be sort of funny, sure. Sort of.
Fresh: Judd Apatow is not a disciplined artist. And that's a good thing.
Fresh: This is terrifically assured work from Judd Apatow. And most importantly, funny.

What a stupid movie
This movie was way too long and slow and summarizes everything that's wrong with America: people living above their means, bratty kids, etc. Don't waste your time watching it at home. Just go to your local restaurant, gym, coffee shop, etc. It's all there...
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I never write reviews, but having suffered through this film last night, I felt compelled.
This movie should not even be mentioned in the same category as "Knocked Up", which was funny. "This is 40" is deeply depressing, slow, dim witted, and vulgar simply for the sake of being vulgar.
I wish I could have my $5.99 back along with the 2.5 hours of my life that was wasted on this trash.
Time to call it quits Apatow!
Crass, uninspired and disappointing
Turned 40 this year and hoped this movie would provide some comic relief. What a disappointment. The characters are unlike able, superficial, completely self-centered and sad. The movie is slow to go almost nowhere. If you think swearing and vulgarity hilarious, go for it. If you want a story with any real value or meaning, look elsewhere.
