Plot Summary
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers star in this classic musical romance of two lovers kept apart by a case of mistaken identity. Vacationing in London, Dale Tremont (Rogers) is awakened by Jerry Travers (Astaire) working out his new dance routine in the hotel room above hers. Although the two feel an instant attraction, Dale thinks that Jerry is married to her friend Madge (Helen Broderick). When Jerry then pursues Dale romantically, she is shocked--believing him a cad--yet she can't stop herself from falling in love with a seemingly married man. But when the couple meet again in Venice, all misunderstandings are resolved as Dale and Jerry dance together under the moonlight, cheek to cheek. Irving Berlin songs include: "Cheek to Cheek," "Isn't this a Lovely Day?" and "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails."

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: All the minor players are such skilled comedians that they are able to extract merriment from this none too original comedy of errors.
Fresh: Finally, thanks more to Fred Astaire than any other single influence, the character of musicomedy in the cinema has now completely changed.
Fresh: This one can't miss and the reasons are three -- Fred Astaire, Irving Berlin's 11 songs and sufficient comedy between numbers to hold the film together.
Fresh: The plot is involving, especially as it builds to its seemingly impossible-to-solve finale.
