Plot Summary

In the tradition of FIELD OF DREAMS, TOUCHBACK is a story about sports, faith, and realizing that everything you need is already in front of you. Facing foreclosure on his home, former high school football star-turned-farmer-and-family-man, Scott Murphy (Brian Presley of BORDERLAND) has found rock bottom. But, after bumping his head, he finds himself with a unique opportunity to revisit his glory days before the Ohio State championship where he permanently injured his knee in a game-winning play. Given a second shot at destiny, Scott seeks his mentor, Coach Hand (Kurt Russell of MIRACLE, DREAMER), to help him decide whether to let his fate unfold or change his future. Also starring Melanie Lynskey (TV's TWO AND A HALF MEN), Marc Blucas (TV's NECESSARY ROUGHNESS), Sarah Wright (THE HOUSE BUNNY) and Christine Lahti (TV's LAW & ORDER: SVU, CHICAGO HOPE).

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A lightweight and overlong feel-good drama that plays like a mashup of It's a Wonderful Life and Friday Night Lights. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Apr 16, 2012

Fresh: Earnestness and obviousness compete for supremacy early on in Don Handfield's film, with the latter fully in front; happily, earnestness stages a comeback by the end. – Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic, Apr 19, 2012

Rotten: Are any of them alone reason enough to sit through two hours of warmed-over life lessons? Not particularly, but it should be said that the cast and crew have made a fair stride towards redeeming earnest low-budget filmmaking of this ilk... – William Goss, Film.com, Apr 13, 2012

Rotten: Touchback takes a handoff from Peggy Sue Got Married and It's A Wonderful Life and runs it up the middle for a modest gain. – Sam Adams, AV Club, Apr 12, 2012
