Plot Summary
A resurrected Unicron has taken over the now-lifeless body of Megatron to seek vengeance on the Autobots and ultimately, the destruction of Cybertron. This formidable enemy forces an unlikely alliance between the Autobots, Decepticons, Predaking and two new Predacons, who come together in an epic battle to help protect their newly restored planet!

A solid finale for the series
While you do get the feeling this was the plan for the next season compressed into a 1 hour movie when the series was cancelled, the writing is solid and entertaining. The plot is actually pretty logical (not always the case in toy tie-in shows where they have to change things to sell the upcoming product line), with just a little clunkiness as they handle the "As you may know" exposition to start the story with Unicron explaining to a confused Megatron just why he can act through him. Nice touching on questions the audience likely would have raised, though.
In short, if you enjoyed the series -- a very solid watch and worth getting. If you haven't seen the series... go watch it first!

The ending was particularly well executed. Fans of prior Transformer instances have, of course, seen Primes (or Primals) sacrifice themselves before -- but this one didn't seem contrived or forced at all. Using the All Spark chamber is the first thing that came to mind to deal with things, and having to move the All Spark energy quickly with no real planning, what he did was really the only option. And thematically, restoring life so there would be more Cybertronians than the few left bookends the beginning of the series (as did the Dark Energon Zombie Hoard) where Team Prime came to accept and deal with the few of them left and their new home. Added bonus points for not passing on the Matrix explicitly when it really wasn't needed (and a big thank you to the writers for having a believable Prime Candidate that didn't annoy the audience by being shoved forward [Cheetor in Beast Machines leaps to mind]). Last but not least, having Megatron of all bots actually and truly seem to be willing to live in peace is a nice change from the more typical Optimus and Megatron both go away, leaving peace behind -- here, the Golden Age of Cybertron is restored both in a material sense and by having the factional rift closed. We probably won't see this universe again (barring Rescue Bots sneaking something in), but while it likely will still have some conflict especially with the Predacons jostling for space, it is nice to think that Team Prime has finally earned a rest from saving their planet all the time.
