Plot Summary
TRASH HUMPERS follows a small gang of sinister 'elderly' peeping toms through the shadows of a nightmarishly familiar suburban landscape. Their shocking and sociopathic behaviour makes for unbearably compelling viewing that scorches itself onto the mind's eye. Married with a child, and now residing in his native Nashville, cinematic provocateur Harmony Korine shows no signs of settling down. Hailed as "the future of American cinema" by Werner Herzog, writer/ director Korine has blazed a trail with his consistently idiosyncratic output, including KIDS, GUMMO, JULIEN DONKEY-BOY and MISTER LONELY. TRASH HUMPERS sees him return to the big screen with an excoriating attack on the American Dream. A lo-fi production of white-heat intensity, Korine calls it, "a new type of horror; palpable and raw."

Fresh: However crassly delivered, Mr. Korine's warning against over-consumption is unambiguous: these savages are our future, our "true seed." The only surprise is that he didn't include a shot of one of them violating this film.
Rotten: It's no accident that Korine's visual style mimics that of a scratchy old VHS tape. There's a name for the genre he's now working in -- it's called glorified public-access TV.
Fresh: The crass, fuzzy beauty of VHS' defiantly crisp-free recording technology gives haunting visual power to both the empty-parking-lot dreariness of day and the harsh, lamplit hum of night.
Rotten: It's about as enervating a way to waste 78 minutes as I've ever experienced.

Only the best movie of whenever it was made!
At once horrifying and hilarious, this strange "not" film is perfect video on the internet. While we know it's not real, one can't help but think it feels real. If feels are supposed to be dream-like this is clearly a nightmare. If films are supposed to be visceral, this one lives up to it. Best not to try to find a narrative or story or characters but instead let it wash over you like some horrible dream.
In closing this film clearly MADE IT, MADE IT, MADE IT!
Enjoyed It...
But perhaps it's Korine just getting away with what he can while people still take interest in his work. As a fan of his since a long time ago, I understand that his films/art/etc. Are not easy to comprehend in the least bit. But this film kinda outdoes itself in terms of raw, distasteful absurdity. And with an old school VCR camcorder, this ones a squirmy, and somewhat jaw dropping creepy ride. Its understandable considering not much came out of his gorgeously poetic, and cinematically breathtaking 'Mister Lonely' film. It seems appropriate that trash Humpers just goes back to what made Korine's movies great in the first place; The white trash, mentally disabled, and often drug induced hysteria that is bottom class America. I look forward to his next one.
No. No. No.
This "no" x 3 from me was no easy achievement. I'm someone who loves experimental and art film, from Bill Viola (and not just the most recent stuff) to Derek Jarman and beyond. There need not be a "there" there with respect to narrative, but there's got to be something. Whatever this something might be, this film did not have it. Not for me.
