Plot Summary

Starring Jeremy Irons, Trashed looks at the risks to the food chain and the environment through pollution of our air, land and sea by waste. The film reveals surprising truths about very immediate and potent dangers to our health. It is a global conversation from Iceland to Indonesia between the film star Jeremy Irons and scientists, politicians and ordinary individuals whose health and livelihoods have been fundamentally affected by waste pollution. Visually and emotionally the film is both horrific and beautiful: an interplay of human interest and political wake-up call. But it ends on a message of hope: showing how the risks to our survival can easily be averted through sustainable approaches that provide far more employment than the current 'waste industry'.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: If we must talk trash, Mr. Irons - assisted by a scientist or two and Vangelis's doomy score - is an inspired choice of guide. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Dec 13, 2012

Fresh: The movie, as have other eco-documentaries, chillingly examines how endless bits of the toxic material routinely flood our oceans, harm its inhabitants and find their way into the fish we eat. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, Dec 14, 2012

Fresh: While its techniques are manipulative -- it's certainly no margin-call to say that Vangelis's two-dimensional score barely lets up from start to finish -- the picture ultimately swerves pitfalls of hectoring preachiness. – Neil Young, Hollywood Reporter, May 24, 2012

Fresh: The form is straightforward, if a little meandering, as is the message: We have to fix this. – Michelle Orange, Village Voice, Dec 11, 2012

Wow

Looks good

Incredible!

Recently we watched CBS Sunday Morning with interest as they had Jeremy Irons on speaking about this documentary. They chose to highlight most of his past acting gigs and less on what he was sincerely plugging...the environment and how we are ruining it. I wanted to see it! Yes, he is a great actor with a voice that is distinctive but I wanted to see how he would develop a documentary on waste that resonated with the viewer.

Every single person that worked on this must be a creative genius because it struck a chord. My fiancée and I took notes during the movie. We sat down after the movie and thought and wrote down MORE ways we can eliminate waste.

I am lazy and realized that while I cut up 6-pack drink rings so that they don't effect animals in the environment, I am still throwing out that plastic. That will break down slowly and cause future issues. I am simply not doing enough when in truth it is easy to change my ways.

If you want to be shocked - see the images and listen to the environmental biologists, doctors and victims. This movie drives home a point and it is never too late to save our planet.

I am still taking notes.
