Plot Summary
Academy Award-winning drama stars screen-legend Humphrey Bogart ("Casablanca," "The African Queen"), Walter Huston ("Yankee Doodle Dandy"), and Tim Holt ("The Magnificent Ambersons") as three ill-fated prospectors who set out across the Mexican desert in search of gold but instead find mistrust, betrayal, and death. The legendary John Huston ("The African Queen," "The Maltese Falcon") won an Oscar for his superb direction and screenplay. His father, Walter, received an Oscar for Supporting Actor. Considered by many as Bogart's greatest role, this is a true American classic and was recently selected as one of the fifty best American films of all time by the prestigious American Film Institute. Look for an appearance by young Emmy-winner Robert Blake (TV's "Baretta," "Money Train"). Inducted into the Library of Congress National Film Registry.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Greed, a despicable passion out of which other base ferments may spawn, is seldom treated in the movies with the frank and ironic contempt that is vividly manifested toward it in Treasure of Sierra Madre.
Fresh: Treasure of Sierra Madre is one of the best things Hollywood has done since it learned to talk; and the movie can take a place, without blushing, among the best ever made.
Fresh: The characters here are probed and thoroughly penetrated, not through psychoanalysis but through a crucible of human conflict, action, gesture and expressive facial tones.
Fresh: The movie has never really been about gold but about character, and Bogart fearlessly makes Fred C. Dobbs into a pathetic, frightened, selfish man -- so sick we would be tempted to pity him, if he were not so undeserving of pity.

Totally Worth Watching
I know its an old movie, but it has a great story line. It was so well made that if they tried to remake it today, they would just screw it up.
No Reviews Needed For A Classic
Obviously, any movie that's released to iTunes ~ sixty years after it was made has got to be good, right? Bogart's best role, casting him as the heavy instead of the easier, more likely hero, which his contemporaries played almost exclusively (see John Wayne for ex). You will not be disappointed in adding this movie to your collection.
"I Don't Have to Show You Any Stinkin' Badges!"
This is a classic film depicting the avarice that is held within a man's soul. Bogie steps out of his typecast "hero" role for a more disturbing and sinister character. John Huston's father, Walter, comically plays the grizzled old prospector. On the "AFI's 100 YEARS...100 MOVIES" this film is ranked at #38. This film is a personal favorite of mine, and I'd encourage you to watch this film at least once.
