Fresh: Sandi Simcha DuBowski's wonderful documentary, Trembling Before G-d, extends a warm embrace to those struggling to reconcile sexual orientation with the teachings of the religion in which they were raised and which they cherish.
Fresh: ... the film succeeds in shedding revealing light on a group of individuals who are particularly reluctant to face a camera lens.
Fresh: So how do gay men and lesbians who want to practice Orthodox Judaism reconcile these two seemingly contradictory forces in their lives? Director Sandi Simcha DuBowski's Trembling Before G-D examines this dilemma with compassion and sensitivity.
Fresh: DuBowski's subject is so compelling that the film doesn't suffer from his traditional approach, which relies on to-the-camera interviews and verite footage of his subjects.

Trembling before G-d
First Rate. Gives a lot of hope that the tradition can indeed be responsive to the human condition. Like many aspects of Judaism that has evolved over centuries of scientific and cultural change, one day Judaism will recognize the science that sexual orientation is a biological phenomenon. To hassle homosexuals, one may as well tell brown eyed people that thier eye color is unacceptable.
