Plot Summary

Indie filmmaker Julian West trains his satirical eye on America’s obsession with guns and violence in this politically astute film set in liberal New York City. Propelled forward by a narrative punctuated with biting facts about gun control in America, this clever plot follows the path of an illegal firearm as it mingles its way into the lives and homes of 22 hilarious New Yorkers. Selling the guns is an aging hipster who peddles the illegal firearms from the back of his vintage clothing shop. Once in private, we observe the way the many characters interact with this powerful object. While some become immediately empowered by the handgun, wielding it around like they’re a character in a video game, others remain befuddled, struggling to determine their feelings towards this incendiary and dangerous object. From IFC Films, this inciteful indie is both disarmingly funny and alarmingly provocative.

the trail of this gun is fun to watch

This is an interesting piece of work that mesmerizes you and captivates you until the end. I like the factual tidbits thrown in at key question points. The characters are very likable and the dialogue is simple and smart.

fascinating chain of oddball characters

Saw this a while ago on IFC. Fun, dark, quirky NY indie. Ensemble cast features an early, pre-NCIS Michael Weatherly, Rosario Dawson, Larry Gilliard from "The Wire" and also Richard Bright from the Godfather movies (he killed Fredo!)

great indie film

This movie is by far a great example of what one can do with a low budget, and good dialogue to drive a story.

With a blend of dark comedy and satire, Trigger Happy offers an interesting commentary on on the controversial topic of guns while also also exploring the types of people who embody modern american culture. In doing this Julian West manages to seamlessly connect very different characters to a single object to push the story forward.

On my personal list, it is an unsung stable of great screenwriting. Despite being produced and aired on IFC almost 10 years ago, Trigger Happy has received little attention. This movie by the very least should be a cult-classic. I would give this film 4.5 stars out of 5, however the rating system on here doesn’t allow for it, so thats why I’m giving this movie 5 stars.

(also this movie should be offered in HD 1080i, since it was filmed on 16:9 35mm film)
