Rotten: Its computer sequences exist in a blue-gray scheme filled with flashing lights, speeding objects and dizzying motion. Its visual effects are wonderfully new. They are also numbing after a while.
Fresh: For most people, TRON's importance is as a historical footnote. It's the Model T of our CGI age. But the film's fans are passionate ones.
Fresh: A dazzling movie from Walt Disney in which computers have been used to make themselves romantic and glamorous. Here's a technological sound-and-light show that is sensational and brainy, stylish, and fun.
Fresh: Not only does it introduce the humanity/technology themes that would surface in later cyberpunk fantasies, it boasts some of the most unique visuals in any film, then or now.

An all around classic, and should be included in any sci-fi collection. Certainly, compared to movies made now, the original looks kind of clunky, but for it's time, it was a revolutionary breakthrough in special effects. I've seen both this one and Tron: Legacy, and I feel that you really have to watch the first one to get a good background on the newest one. I, for one, am very happy that iTunes now has it.
My suggestion, watch both. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Don't be a fool of yourself.
This movie was groundbreaking for its time. Back in 1982, this movie was basically Avatar. You won't believe how long or how complicated it was to make a movie about what is in computers. Now that we have TRON: Legacy, we had the right kind of technology to make a perfect to-the-date film so it can be amazing again. I see people comparing these two films negetively. Please watch your keyboard/mouth. You're dealing with Lisberger and Bridges. And also, stop whining about how outdated this movie was. It was made back in 82. Thank you.

"Greetings Programs"
This movie was a classic in 1982. The casting was great, the story was well told through the eyes of a computer programmer Flynn the protagonist. This movie revolutionized the use of computers in movies from this film. From creating a world that was inside a computer this was a landmark film. Though it was made in 1982 this film has withstood the test of time and has become a classic for everyone to enjoy.
