Plot Summary

At 34, struggling Seattle musician Sam (Mark Duplass, Humpday, The League) finds himself broke, jobless and losing touch with the person he wants to become. When his girlfriend kicks him out, heís forced to crash with his Aunt Sharon (Academy Award winner Melissa Leo, The Fighter) and is reluctantly enlisted to take her teen son, Oliver, and his friend Jake camping. Edgy, funny and honest, Craig Johnson's film follows the trio into the rugged Pacific Northwest as unforeseen revelations and transformations force them to face adulthood. Set to a mesmerizing soundtrack featuring both emerging and established artists including Band of Horses, The Black Keys and Devendra Banhart, TRUE ADOLESCENTS reminds us that sometimes people need to get lost to truly find themselves.

Rotten: True Adolescents bears the dubious distinction of combining mumblecore's penchant for artistic slackers with Hollywood's celebration of immature slobs. – Ronnie Scheib, Variety, Jul 26, 2011

Fresh: A not-coming-of-age tale nestled in sardonic slacker humor, first-time writer-director Craig Johnson's True Adolescents effectively essays the costs of postponed adulthood. – Mark Holcomb, Village Voice, Jul 26, 2011

Typical

The acting in this movie was garbage. The only reason why it won any awards is because they threw in the random, questioning of sexuality. I guess that is what indie films are all about. Throwing in useless, have nothing to do with the plot, gender issues. Overall, a terrible movie.
