Plot Summary

They're the best of friends. Soon, they'll be the worst of enemies. John Cusack (America's Sweethearts, Say Anything) and James Spader (sex, lies and videotape, Pretty In Pink) star in this dramatic, absorbing story of two friends who move from law school to Washington's corridors of power. Cusack plays Peter, a lower-class go-getter who climbs to the position of congressman by betraying everyone who ever trusted him, including his idealistic blue-blooded pal Tim (Spader). Tim, of course, would never cross a friend. Unless it was to avenge his own betrayal...

Customer Reviews

Good dramatic movie with solid actors

I like Cusack, Spader, and Stubbs as actors, and enjoyed them in this drama. It is driven by Cusack's character, whose actions are somewhat understandable (due to weakness and insecurity) while still being thoroughly detestable. Spader's "white knight" is very different from the slimy lawyer he played on "Boston Legal".

iTunes doesn't have a movie description right now. In short, Burton (Cusack) and Garrity (Spader) are two law students who become friends. Garrity joins the Department of Justice. Burton is jealous of those who have power and money, so he manipulates those around him to gain political power. Garrity works to bring down Burton, after learning how Burton betrayed him by marrying his ex-girlfriend (Stubbs) and sabotaging his investigation into mob corruption.
