Plot Summary

Philip Kaufman directs the detective thriller Twisted (originally to be titled The Blackout Murders), with a script by up-and-coming filmmaker Sarah Thorp. Ashley Judd plays troubled police detective Jessica Shepard, who works under the jurisdiction of the man who raised her as his daughter, police Commissioner Mills (Samuel L. Jackson). While investigating a serial murder case, Jessica — who is has a proclivity for dangerous, drunken one-night-stands — discovers that all of the victims are men whom she's recently bedded. Complicating matters are her bitter ex-boyfriend (Mark Pellegrino), her very curious therapist (David Strathairn), and her odd-behaving new partner Mike Delmarco (Andy Garcia).

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Judd is let down by Twisted because tearful, confused victim doesn't come naturally to her; she's not fun to watch suffer if you can't see her calculating the payback. – Charles Taylor, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: A suspense thriller without thrills or suspense. – Jorge Morales, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: It begins pretty, and ends up ugly. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Apr 9, 2004

Rotten: We can only regret that this is the kind of script [Kaufman's] being offered these days. Now, that's twisted. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Twisted

This was a pulse racing, highly charged movie that kept you wondering whos doing what in this murder mystery. Ashley Judd was fabulous in a role that was raunchy and wild out of control in a system that she felt so comfortable in. Law innforcement. Great sex great mystery great acting.

Nice try

I love Ashley and can never think bad of her but in this case, the script was bad along with the story. It had the essence of a great film but it just didn't work. It had the sex, the violence, and the cast but the story flopped in my opinion.

A Thriller is a Thriller

Now just because Twisted is not an artistic masterpiece, that doesn't mean that it isn't a good thriller. I wouldn't declare it worthy of any Oscars, but it will easily do for any lazy afternoon.
