Rotten: Good Deeds honors goodness, which isn't at all a bad thing, and it's not without moments of genuine feeling. But by the film's end, after watching a seemingly infinite number of dour close-ups of sober self-evaluation, I felt bludgeoned.
Rotten: An otherwise unremarkable pic that takes what feels like a very long time to unwind a drearily predictable storyline.

Rotten: Whose life, Wesley asks in the movie's narration, is he living? Judging from all the sterile office and apartment space and his mile-long face, I'd say Bruce Willis's in "The Sixth Sense.''

A DECENT PERRY FLICK
"Good Deeds" is basically yet another pretentious melodrama filled with all the schmaltzy clichés and unrealistic plot devices you'd be likely to find in most Tyler Perry films. But admittedly, it's a lot better than you might think. The storyline is surprisingly thoughtful, the cast is undeniably appealing and the acting is pretty decent for the most part. Thandie Newton's performance in particular is what mostly helps this flick stand on its own. Sure, it contains some unnecessarily over-the-top dialogue and repetitive tension-filled scenarios, but for a Tyler Perry movie, "Good Deeds" is actually above average. All in all, if you're a fan of Perry's films or if you simply wanna watch a feel-good, entertaining drama, this film is worth renting at least once.
I love this movie
I love love love this movie. In my opinion, it's the best Tyler Perry film. I laughed through it and I learned lots of lessons that can be applied to everyday life. I love it!
