Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A comedy that's too late to the Ponzi-scheme party to be topical, and not outrageous enough to take advantage of its own setups. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Jun 29, 2012

Rotten: George's son asks for Wi-Fi, and Madea says, ''Sure, I can make you a waffle.'' That's one of the good jokes. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 4, 2012

Rotten: A spectacularly slapdash and wearingly half-hearted effort from the prolific writer-director-actor, lacking energy, structure or common sense. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Jun 29, 2012

Rotten: Even such potentially amusing comic set-pieces as when Madea goes through airport security, with predictably chaotic results, feel awfully half-hearted. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 29, 2012

A STEP BACKWARDS FOR PERRY

I'm just gonna be honest here. I didn't like this film, at least not as much as I would've wanted to. I've always been a big fan of Tyler Perry's "Madea" comedies. They're hilarious, over-the-top, and just plain fun to watch. But for some reason, "Witness Protection" felt too generic and uninspired, as if Perry just gave up trying to come up with new, creative material and settled for doing the exact same thing he's been doing in all his movies, only this time with an awkward white family. The characters are boring and unoriginal, the screenplay is lazy and predictable, and most of the jokes are just recycled from past "Madea" flicks. I'll admit, there were a few times where I genuinely laughed (especially when Doris Roberts was on screen), but I'm sorry to say that Perry just didn't deliver the goods this time around. "Witness Protection" isn't a terrible movie, per se, but it lacks the energy, structure, and common sense needed to make for a memorable comedy. If you wanna rent this movie, go ahead, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. Despite what any of the critics say, Perry has made much funnier films than this mess.

Great if you love Madea!

And who doesn't love Madea?? I liked this film because it was mostly Madea and funny. I love Tyler's other films but love the parts with Madea in them the most. I think that's why I like his plays better than the movies. More Madea. But in this film….there was a lot of her and if you like his movies for Madea then you will love this movie. Also, Eugene Levy was hilarious!

Love It

I seen this movie in the theater and IT IS FUNNNNNY
