Plot Summary

From visionary director Jonathan Glazer (SEXY BEAST, BIRTH) comes a stunning career transformation, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial — or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring a succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), UNDER THE SKIN examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.

Fresh: This arty sci-fi thriller, adapted from a 2000 novel by Michael Faber, raises far more questions than it answers, yet that enigmatic quality is central to its appeal. – Ben Sachs, Chicago Reader, Apr 17, 2014

Fresh: Under the Skin definitely gets under your skin. – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Apr 18, 2014

DULL

If you enjoy watching Scarlett drive a van for 90 minutes, go for it. It has like, 3 good scenes where she consumes people, but thats not enough to save it.

I didn’t drink the kool-aid

Sorry folks, there are no more than 50 words spoken in this documentary of Scottish landscape peppered with scenes of a very different looking SJ than you might expect. The methodical characteristic of the movie is actually just called BORING as this drugged out Director slogs through bogs of cinematic nothingness. Honestly, a total waste with no visual excitement beyond trees, surf, wind, rain and a few motorcycles to tick a gear head’s box. Makes me wonder what these professional critics drink or eat or snort before watching these “artsy” movies…don’t do it, step away from the computer, keep walking...

Brilliant but not for everyone

Many of the best sci-fi films (Blade Runner, 2001) are about what it means to be human. Under The Skin is a stunning example of that, but utterly original. You have never seen this film before. Eerie, methodical, visually striking, and very unnerving, it's an "art house" film that will divide viewers. Much of the film was shot guerrilla style with unsuspecting non-actors, capturing people as they really are. If you're looking for more of an action sci-fi film or emotional melodrama, look elsewhere, but if you go in with an open mind and take it all in, you'll be haunted by it.
