Plot Summary

From the studio that brought you Sweet Home Alabama comes the extraordinary romantic comedy starring Academy Award (R) nominee Diane Lane (2002 Best Actress, Unfaithful). Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book, Under The Tuscan Sun follows San Francisco writer Frances Mayes (Lane) to Italy as a good friend offers her a special gift -- 10 days in Tuscany. Once there, she is captivated by its beauty and warmth, and impulsively buys an aging, but very charming, villa. Fully embracing new friends and local color, she finds herself immersed in a life-changing adventure filled with enough unexpected surprises, laughter, friendship, and romance to restore her new home -- and her belief in second chances.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Under the Tuscan Sun pretends to be juicy, but it doesn't allow any dribbles. It purports to make love all over us, but not without laying down lots of paper towels first. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: The only real downside to the film is what it's likely to do for Italian tourism. After this, the deluge. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jan 15, 2004

Fresh: The epitome of what a feel-good movie is supposed to be but rarely is, this one is beautiful to look at and life-affirming to think about, and it doesn't have a pretentious bone in its head. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It is a glorious refreshment to spend time with characters who aren't twenty-something eye bait, someone's virtuous, whiny wife or other reductive archetypes. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Jul 16, 2008

An excellent movie that will bring a smile to your face!

wow, I can't believe you can actually buy movies on Itunes now! Finally! Well, anyway this movie is definitley a one of a kind movie! The humor combined with the excellent plot will make you fall in love with this movie. The scene with the hot water in the toliet bowl will have you laughing like crazy. It is definitely pretty clever how Diane Lane's character wishes for a family and children and gets it but in a different way then she imagined. If you want to see what I mean, buy it! It really is a cute, and funny movie that will leave you smiling after you see it! See it also especially if you love Tuscany, Italy. Enjoy!

Just Makes You Feel Good

Plain and simple: this film will remind you that there is always good to come, and that the chances we take can lead to unexpected, but happy outcomes. The scenery is enough to encourage you to get out there and travel. I wouldn't have cast it any other way.
