Excellent movie, worth the $4 rent

More on the plot:
This movie asks, "What does it mean to be true to one's self?"

Miguel is a well-known and respected man among his small town and church. He is also married and has a child on the way. However, he has an extremely secret affair with Santiago, an openly gay painter who is disliked by the town. One night, Santiago accidentally drowns. However, he is unable to pass on to the "other side", so his ghost "haunts" Miguel.

I guess you could say this is the Peruvian version of Brokeback Mountain...there are definitely similarities between the two.

Storyline: Charming and deeply moving.
Acting: Simply excellent!
Scenery: Absolutely beautiful. The coastal Peruvian town is breathtaking and charming.

As a person who usually watches everything for free, this was worth the $4 rent!
Also, if you're learning Spanish (like me), the movie is not *too* difficult to understand (though if you don't, there's subtitles)

A GEM!

A truly beautiful story of a man finding his way to his truth.
More haunting than we had expected, we fell in love with True Gem of a film.
More than just a gay film, it speaks of the difficulties and beauty of making it through life with your integrity intact. Beautiful, moving performances from all. The soundtrack and scenery of Peru were incredible as well.

Absolutely Brilliant!

This movie was a surprise to me....the acting is superb, and the main characters manage to create the emotion of many issues coming together - social, religion, machisimo - and it's all brilliantly set on the North Coast of Peru - Cabo Blanco. The music is dark, haunting and sad - and plays for a great soundtrack. I actualy cried in the last 15 minutes of this movie.

Don't think twice - simply watch this movie - it's very inspiring, and at it's heart it's a love story and about being true to yourself - at any cost....definitely worth all of the awards it got!
