find the directors cut
This is the greatly lacking edited version of the film. Wenders, when he released his fully realized version, delivered it at roughly five hours. It is, like many of his films, a road movie and needs to be viewed in that context. Watching the current itunes version will not make a lot of sense. Watching the five hour version is a big commitment but Wenders is one of the greatest living directors. This is one of the largest canvases he has ever painted and it deserves a lot of time and thought before passing judgment. Remember, this is the same director responsible for Paris Texas, Wings of Desire as well as Buena Vista Social Club - you are dealing with the work of a great artist. Maybe itunes will make the complete version of the film available, that would be amazing!
AWESOME MOVIE. WISH ITUNES HAD FULL VERSION
Probably one of the greatest movies ever. Not for the type of person who wants to watch a movie they don't have to think about. I agree with the last review about iTunes needing the full version. It is almost 5 hours, but if you are into cerebral movies, this one is a winner. But keep in mind, the screenplay was written in the late 80's before the "world changed". Some stuff might seem a bit hoaky now given the movie took place 10 years ago, but when it was written, it was 10 years in the future.
Needs to be seen again
I saw the short version of this when it came out in the 90s and fell in love with the slightly futuristic, thinking-man's punk quality. It's a film, not supposed to be "realistic" but rather to open ones' mind and it did that for me. I saw it again in the full version, which took significantly more time and while I enjoyed it, already being a "convert", I can see how some might find the trilogy a lot to sit through in this era of short attention spans. It's probably best to see the short version knowing that Wenders disapproved of its release.
