Plot Summary

V/H/S is a point-of-view, found-footage horror film from the perspective of America's top genre filmmakers. A group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger and more inexplicably terrifying than the last...

Rotten: At nearly two hours, the gimmick punctures a hole in itself, causing ambience bleed-out. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Oct 4, 2012

Fresh: "V/H/S" puts the majority of today's mainstream "scary" movies to shame; perhaps the solution is to cut them all down to about 15 minutes, and fund them on a shoestring. – Sara Stewart, New York Post, Oct 5, 2012

You have to have some patience and go in without expectations

If you don't like the wobbly camera thing, don't watch, its excessive to the point (and this coming from someone who LOVES first person horror) of almost annoying. There is a lot of video distortion as well, which can as well be very annoying to some, lots of flashes so not good for people with epilepsy. The segments are probably about 10ish min or more long and most of them are well constructed and pretty original in some cases. A couple of them are pretty surprising as well. However in watching it you may feel more disgruntled in some moments of the film because the "main" characters are scum of the earth jerks. Their story is pretty obvious of what's to happen to them. Their segment thats broken up between mini movies is probably the worst because its obviousness. There is excessive nudity of the male and female kind so if you really don't wanna see that, skip this movie. You really have to have no expectations of this movie because yes, the trailer basically gives most of it away, (save for some parts). It will throw you off sometimes because a few of them are pretty original and some are pretty ridiculous. So if your very critical of your horror don't watch this. Its a shock movie mainly crossed over with a snuff film.

Disappointed

The movie is like a really bad "Creepshow". The best segments are the !st and the last. The ones in-between feel like fillers and do not offer anything new or really exiting. As with most movies these days the trailer shows most of the good parts. I really enjoy Ti West's movies but his segment was pretty lame. Just did not enjoy it like I thought I would.

Fantastically Original!!

I watch around 200 Horror \Thriller movies a year from all areas Foreign, indie, domestic, etc, this by far one of the most entertaining horror pieces I have seen in a while. As an anthology found footage piece it gives the viewer several different stories that are well written and directed perfectly. A creepy, scary hell ride. There is something here for ALL!!
