Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The director only skims over the historical material. In taking for granted that this background is familiar to all, the film drives home the fact that high fashion is made by the few for the few. – Natasha Senjanovic, Hollywood Reporter, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: True to the Valentino prerogative, it's beautiful -- sad, too: a dream life moving into the unknown. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: As Valentino's team of seamstresses pore over a sequined white dress, entirely hand-sewn, and finally premiere it to the designer in its flawless, couture glory, it's all you can do not to gasp with pleasure. – Kara Nesvig, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Above all, Valentino is a celebration of beauty and love, and the ways in which one begets the other. – Tom Maurstad, Dallas Morning News, Jul 7, 2010

The last great couturier

Anyone who enjoys fashion will enjoy this film. Although there are not a lot of shots of the actual dresses, what they show is amazing. Valentino is charming, even when he is a diva. Being able to see the process (albeit brief glimpses) is a real treat. Seeing the amazing artists who work behind the scenes is priceless. I have watched this several times and never gotten bored with it.
