Plot Summary

Eddie Murphy's got the bite in this movie mix of bone-chilling horror and chill-out comedy directed by Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street). As the vampire Maximillian, the popular star is the most diabolical, dashing and definitely undead dude in the 'hood. To add to the macabre fun, Murphy morphs into two other must-see characters: a paunchy preacher and a fast talking thug. Angela Basset (Waiting to Exhale, What's Love Got To Do With It) plays the cop whose world is rocked by Maximillian's attempts to make her his mate for eternity. And Kadeem Hardison (TV's A Different World) is the haplessly decaying vampire's sidekick who (a hand here, and ear there) is forever losing things. Brooklyn may be home to the undead now that Max is around-but means it's livelier than ever!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Murphy's pale efforts are enough to make one fondly recall Blacula. Now that was one sucker who knew how to make a film that didn't. – Susan Wloszczyna, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Vampire in Brooklyn is neither funny nor frightening and comes up a tedious middle-road hybrid from veteran scaremeister Wes Craven, who directed. – Peter Stack, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: This modern fable is little more than a Murphy potboiler, something to while away a couple of hours, rather than fondly remember. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Aug 13, 2002

Rotten: Craven can't keep the comic elements in balance with the horror, and as a result there's no tension or dramatic pull. – Hal Hinson, Washington Post, Aug 13, 2002
