Plot Summary
Vegucated is a feature-length documentary that follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks. There’s Brian, the bacon-loving bachelor who eats out all the time, Ellen, the single mom who prefers comedy to cooking, and Tesla, the college student who avoids vegetables and bans beans. They have no idea that so much more than steak is at stake and that the fate of the world may fall on their plates. Lured with true tales of weight lost and health regained, they begin to uncover hidden sides of animal agriculture and soon start to wonder whether solutions offered in films like Food, Inc. go far enough. Before long, they find themselves risking everything to expose an industry they supported just weeks before. But can their conviction carry them when times get tough? What about on family vacations fraught with skeptical step-dads, carnivorous cousins, and breakfast buffets? Part sociological experiment, part science class, and part adventure story, Vegucated showcases the rapid and at times comedic evolution of three people who share one journey and ultimately discover their own paths in creating a kinder, cleaner, greener world, one bite at a time.

Good overall, but somewhat disappointing.
I was so bummed when I started watching it and discovered that the creators of it thought it would be important to point out to their audience that Oreos were actually vegan. And what followed was a scene showing one of the participants very excited that this processed food with zero nutritional value was officially on the "Good List," not because it contained anything healthy, but rather because it didn't contain animal products. I was shocked that what I thought was a documentary about healthy eating would make it a point to promote something like Oreos! Disappointing! It's still worth watching, and Dr Furhman is the bomb, but the Oreo scene just killed it for me. Some people get so wrapped up in the saving-the-animals aspect of the term Vegan that they lose sight of the fact that just because something does not contain animal products doesn't mean it's healthy. In this regard, the term Vegan doesn't guarantee a healthy diet whatsoever since Oreos are considered okay. I prefer the term Plant-Based Diet, because that really does tell you that the person's diet is centered around healthy foods. Whereas a vegan could have an Oreo-based diet and still be considered Vegan :(((
A Bit Limited
While I applaud this documentary for bringing to light some of the most important reasons to adopt a plant based diet, the filmmaker did very little to encourage the participants to actually eat PLANTS. When, at the end of the film, they show the contents of their newly 'veganized' refrigerators, we see soy milk, fake butter, fake hot dogs, fake fake fake fake fake. This film is really about animal rights, not health. If the participants had adopted a vegan diet based on REAL vegan food, not just vegan versions of the junk food we eat as omnivores, they would have seen much more significant health benefits. So, overall, I found the film informative, but limited. You can be extremely unhealthy as a vegan, and some of the choices the participants were encouraged to make could easily have created similar problems to the ones they were having as omnivores. That being said, I applaud anyone who wants to live a more health conscious, cruelty-free lifestyle.
wonderfully entertaining !!!
No matter your personal view on veganism, the movie was inspirational, funny, and so well crafted. This film will challenge your beliefs while making you laugh. this is a MUST SEE!!!!
