Orwellian
This brilliant underpublicized film is a contemporary reminder that liberty and freedom are personal.
Galifianakis portrays a man deferring to the matrix of inexorable social forces imposed on him by the spiritually bankrupt society he inhabits that most closely resembles The Party of George Orwell's "1984."
Employees of "The Jeffers Corporation" know nothing the television doesn't tell them is true, and have forgotten and forsaken their humanity in favor of the virtual reality accomplishments of business, praying only that they do not spontaneously "explode," an epidemic whose root causes elude the nation, and that they will qualify for a promotion up the pyramid, more clearly delineating the superior from the inferior, and elevating them closer to the top of the pyramid of their hegemonic command structure.
Gallifianakis' character is propelled toward a new horizon of consciousness and out of harm's way by the confluence of his explosive anxieties, the rejection of his society by his more successful brother, and his the end of his loveless marriage.
This film is not comedy.
A$& Hole below.
Not all renting this film are children. Some of us actually know a bad film when we see it. Zac is a funny guy, but this film is lame.
