Plot Summary

Audrey Hepburn received an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of a photographer's blind wife who is trapped in her New York apartment by an evil trio, ready to murder her to retrieve a heroin-filled doll hidden in her apartment. Henry Mancini's music heightens the pitch as tension mounts. With Oscar-winner Alan Arkin ("Little Miss Sunshine," "Slums of Beverly Hills"), Emmy-winner Richard Crenna ("Sabrina," the "Rambo" movies) and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. ("Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman," "Hot Shots!"). Directed by early "James Bond" director Terence Young ("Dr. No." "From Russia with Love").

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: This superb drama filled with spell-binding tension has not lost an iota of its considerable impact, even 40 years after it was made. Audrey Hepburn is mesmerising as the blind woman whose quick thinking is more illuminating than the brightest of lights – Urban Cinefile Critics, Urban Cinefile, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Wait Until Dark, Frederick Knott's gimmicky stage play about a blind woman terrorized by crooks, was brought to the screen in 1967 and was accompanied by an even more outlandish gimmick. – Eric Henderson, Slant Magazine, May 5, 2014

Great Cast

I've seen this film several times. I actually saw this when it came out in the theater. I took a date, and there's a scene near the end of the film that is quite sudden and frightening; my date nearly broke my hand she was so scared.
This is an excellent thriller in the old style. There are no car chases, no explosions, no big special effects. Just solid acting by a stellar cast, and a well crafted story.
Audrey Hepburn is stunningly beautiful in this film that casts her with Richard Crenna, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Jack Weston, and Alan Arkin. And Alan Arkin deserves credit as one of the first really evil bad guys.
Not fast paced film, but it is an excellent film! Hepburn and Zimbalist both got Golden Globe nominations, and Ms Hepburn received an Academy Award nomination.

Best film ever!!!!

I just saw this film, and my heart is still beating fast!!! This film has everything a great movie should be. At the beginning of the film you don't know whats going on, but something is very suspicious as well and when we reach the climax we don't know how the movie will end, it's not very predictable (which is great)! And Audrey Hepburn's performance is Oscar worthy! I highly recommend this film to any Audrey Hepburn fan and who hasn't seen a good movie for awhile!!!!

Incredible Thriller

I remember first seeing this as a kid. I love this movie. It's a great thriller. Very intense. The tension grabs you and you won't be able to wiggle your way out of its grasp. Watch it! Its an older movie, but it belongs on the list along with many contemporary thrillers as well as the classic thrillers of the ages. Again, watch the movie.
