Plot Summary

Trapped in a miserable marriage and blessed with the ability to transform her misery into delicious desserts, a small-town waitress finds her life forever changed by an unplanned pregnancy. Every day, Jenna (Keri Russell) ties on her apron and serves her customers with a smile, and every night she goes to bed knowing that she is one step closer to the day that she can kiss her scarily domineering husband (Jeremy Sisto) goodbye forever. A smart and sassy baker whose extraordinary pies are inspired by her daily trials and tribulations, Jenna fears that her dreams are all but dead when handsome Dr. Pomatter (Nathan Fillion) reveals that she is soon to become a mother. As Jenna begins penning a series of letters to her unborn baby, her life starts to change for the better in ways she never could have imagined. The final film from actress/filmmaker Adrienne Shelly, Waitress debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah just months after the director was discovered dead in her New York City apartment — the victim of a homicide.

Didn't enjoy this much

This is a really simplistic, cutesy movie with a silly, happy ending. The characters are such broadly drawn stereotypes (the waitress with the heart of gold, the wife-beating husband, the crusty old man) that it's hard to like them. Keri Russell isn't at all believable as the abused wife who can't seem to escape her husband until she finds a happily married doctor to commit adultery with (and that's celebrated as a good thing, although again the relationship is thoroughly unbelievable). At the risk of alienating those who enjoyed this film, it's a pretty simplistic story with a predictable, Hollywood ending. If that's you're thing, great, but I was quite disappointed.

Good Movie

I just recently rented this movie (from an actual store) and thought that it was really good. I do not understand why people did not like it-the comedy is well done, but you can still feel tension in the dramatic parts. I agree that the ending may be sort of predictable, but that only contributed to the overall whimsical feel of the movie. It is a great movie to rent.

Favorite movie of all time...

This movie is so so so cute and so unbelievably good! I recomend it to everyone I talk to! It's one you can watch over and over and over again and it never gets old! "We just agreed you have real attractive hair....hooray for you! Woooo...."
