Plot Summary
One of the most iconic figures in rock history, Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly) had it all: the women (over 411 served), the friends (Elvis, The Beatles) and the rock 'n' roll lifestyle (a close and personal relationship with every pill and powder known to man). But most of all, he had the music that transformed a dimwitted country boy into the greatest American rock star who never lived. A wild and wicked send-up of every musical biopic ever made, WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY is gut-busting proof that when it comes to hard rocking, living and laughing, a hard man is good to find.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Call me a cynic, call me a curmudgeon, call me perverse -- I loved every moment of Dewey Cox's story.
Fresh: Cox rocks.
Rotten: Walk Hard runs down quickly, and suffers further from having the wide-eyed and weightless Reilly as its star.
Fresh: There are a few too many lazy jokes played off Dewey's last name, but not nearly enough to wipe that grin off your face.

Funny, But Disappointing...
After watching the great Superbad, and the astounding Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Walk Hard seemed like a modest adventure, but what I was greeted to were some lame jokes, and some really funny jokes. The comedy falls into the 5th grader humor during the first 30 minutes, but once Dewey meets Elvis and has that experience with the pot in the bathroom, everything becomes much funnier. The continuation of the drug jokes are pretty hilarious, and kind of true. The in-joke of miscasting is perfect -- just wait for the moment when Dewey meets The Beatles (see Justin Long and Jack Black as George and Paul). There was a LOT of nudity and sex jokes in the unrated version I saw, so I can't comment on raunch in this original cut. The music is very good; Riley has a great voice. I truly thought "the wrong kid died" would be his masterpiece. Overall, Dewey can go from very funny to completely unfunny in a heartbeat, and go from serious to comedy in an instant, but while the film may be a little longer than I had hoped for, it was still a pretty good film. Worth a rent, not a buy.
So Funny
This is the funniest movie I've seen ever since, well ever. I'm a big fan of music and seeing comedians trash it like this is incredible. Definetly worth your every cent. I would by it and love it like I did
