Plot Summary
This enthralling award-winning film by internationally-acclaimed director Eytan Fox explores the motives, strengths, and, ultimately, the humanity of an Israeli assassin sent to rectify a wrong committed five decades earlier. Eyal is a top assassin in the Israeli secret service. He has killed terrorists before, but this time he is sent to eliminate an aging former Nazi war criminal. During his mission, Eyal meets his target's granddaughter and grandson, who inadvertently help him uncover his own troubled history and face his demons, while they discover the ugly truth their family has hidden from them for decades. What began as a straightforward mission, has suddenly escalated in intensity and complexity thrusting three very different people into a thrilling triangle of murder, friendship and fate.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Fox's film seems to say that the kind of saintly purity that would enable one to walk on water -- or to kill with impunity and without repercussions -- doesn't exist.
Fresh: Terrific Israeli drama.
Fresh: If there are no simple solutions offered to calm Israel's troubles, there is still hope in this fine portrait of a country torn too many ways.
Rotten: This movie already has enough topics on the table. As a result, none gets the attention it deserves.

Not what I expected
I was reluctant to watch this film, thinking the central story would be this assassin's journey to oust his enemy. While this was the ultimate goal, the power behind the story is the concept of loving friendship transcending sexuality, family, race, religion and history.
One of the greatest undercurrents of the story is the positive and stable portrayal of a gay man. It seemed his normalcy became a strength pillar for our main character.
Excellent movie
One of the few movies to ever create such an immediate, emotional, audience reaction through one simple birthday scene. A moving story that tells of an Israeli agent assigned to watch the grandchildren (grown in the movie) of a Nazi war lord, a storyline against which we are to compare societal attitudes toward gays. Intriguing and emotional. Although not well known in the U.S., Lior A. is clearly a talented actor who draws the audience into his character as the Israeli agent. A phenomenal movie and highly recommended.
