Plot Summary
The world may be closer to a nuclear holocaust than we think. “War and Peace” shot over 4 years in India, Pakistan, Japan and the USA was triggered by macabre scenes of jubilation that greeted nuclear testing in the Indian sub-continent. Fifty years after his murder, memories of Gandhi seem like a mirage that never was, created by our thirst for peace and our very distance from it. Anand Patwardhan who has been described as the “Michael Moore of India” has made landmark documentaries that are often suppressed by the ruling elite. He has so far successfully challenged all censorship rulings in court.

A must watch!
Jang aur Aman is a powerful movie, perhaps even more relevant in late 2010 than when it was made. Dealing with the frightening possibility of a global nuclear conflagration, it skillfully weaves its politics into a narrative that is simultaneously engrossing and foreboding. The sensitivity with which the director handles India-Pakistan relations, and his commitment to a paradigm of non-violence, make Jang aur Aman a truly unique documentary. I would strongly recommend it!
