Plot Summary

The ‘Manchu War of 1636’ was a period in which nearly a half-million civilians of the Joseon Dynasty had been taken captive by the Qing Dynasty of China. War of the Arrows tells the story of a young master archer named Nam-Yi, who goes on a journey to save his only sister who is caught among captive civilians. Nam-Yi branded a traitor, but also happens to be the best archer in the Joseon Dynasty. Having a life not worth living for, Nam-Yi’s main desire is to keep his sister, Ja-In safe from any harm or strain. However, on the day of his sister’s wedding, the villages of Joseon Korea are attacked by the Qing Dynasty of China. The village in which Nam-Yi and Ja-In live is in the path of the invasion and Ja-In gets kidnapped by the elite troop (Niru) of Qing. In order to rescue his sister from Niru, he departs from his demolished village with a bow that his father had bequeathed upon him before dying. Disrupting his mission to save his sister is Jyu Shin-Ta, a fierce Qing warrior who leads the elite troops. They are relentless in their chase to bring down Nam-Yi, who has but one day to save his sister from slavery. As Nam-Yi finally gets a hold of his sister, Jyu Shin-Ta comes between them and a fierce battle between two of the finest warriors unfolds.

Bull

This movie hits the mark. The storytelling is fairly straightforward. People not familiar with Korean culture will have no difficulty understanding the plot, but they will be treated to plenty of exciting action in a beautifully recreated historical setting with lots of Korean archetypes (tigers, mountains, archers) and themes (loyalty, perseverance, family obligation...). Definitely worth the cost of the rental fee. And yes, it has English subtitles rather than goofy voice overs.

Arrows never seemed so deadly!

As most guys do I love action movies and decided to see if this was at par with others I have seen. This movie did NOT disappoint and instead had me clinging to the edge of my seat as I waited to see what would happen next. The last moments of the movie got to be so intense that my roommates stopped everything they were doing just to watch it with me. I literally held my breath as the film drew to it's climax and only breathed when the final arrow struck its mark. An intense film that gives a whole new perspective to being a sharpshooter! Enjoy!

QUALITY! Its as simple as that….

Stunning. This movie was a work of great quality. The only flaws that I know of are those that are construed from an individual's opinion…. "War of the Arrows" was exactly the type of movie I was hoping it would be. It met my expectations and delivered beyond that (in my opinion).

The acting was well done. The characters were interesting. The story was developed nicely. In my opinion, nothing was under-developed… I wasn't left wanting more development of plot or characters.

The visuals were stunning. The action….. wow…. what can I say…. it was simply exhilarating. The action scenes were well made. The action isn't simply a bunch of arrow shooting… though the arrow shooting was well put together. There was sword fighting and combat as well.

"War of the Arrows" was well worth the purchase, and the risk since I hadn't seen the movie prior to purchasing it. With that in mind, renting the movie is bargain for those who don't quite want to buy it.

I was nothing short of entertained from the opening shot to the final shot--- PERIOD.
