Plot Summary
Produced and co-written by Academy Award®-Winner Thomas Langmann (THE ARTIST) and featuring the beautiful Laetitia Casta (ARBITRAGE), WAR OF THE BUTTONS follows Lebrac, a pre-teen rebel in WWII-occupied France. Lebrac enjoys leading "wars" between rival gangs of kids, but once he falls for a young Jewish girl in danger of being exposed by the Nazis, he must put aside the petty conflicts to unite the gangs and protect his love. In doing so, Lebrac and the other children confront the very real war happening around them.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The slick filmmaking - the movie has a glossy, Hollywood-ready feel that sometimes tips into the cutesy - works against its themes.
Rotten: Corny ... a revisionist fantasy of French heroism.
Rotten: At a time when most family movies come processed through extreme software and 3-D glasses, this film's gentle vision of the simple life has its old-fashioned charms - though they press too hard on the emo buttons for my taste.
Rotten: It does not attempt to provide a complete or even vaguely realistic depiction of the rural French resistance in the endgame to World War II.
