Plot Summary
Tales of the Black Freighter is a CG animated short written and directed by Zack Snyder. As superhero Dr. Manhattan abandons Earth, enabling the city to be destroyed, a young boy reads a survival tale about a doomed sailor who goes mad while returning home from being marooned. Also included are three ground breaking bonus features: Under the Hood: A live action docu-style look at the Night Owls autobiography detailing the establishment and disbandment of the group of superheroes known as THE WATCHMEN. Story within a Story: The Books of Watchmen: This feature weaves through the Black Freighter and Under The Hood to explore how the comic-within-a-comic acts as parallel commentary. This piece reveals profound insight into the Watchmen story for new fans who have not read the graphic novel. Watchmen Motion Comic Episode1: A retired costumed crime fighter is murdered, and one of his old sidekicks believes he was on a hit list of superheroes to kill.

Can't wait
The story of the black freighter was a sub story told at various points throughout the Watchmen novel and always shadowed what was going on within the watchmen. The black freighter story is very gruesome to say the least and seeing that brutality on screen should render quite a different reaction than just witnessing the images on a page . I was so engrained into the aspects of the story; Certain death, unsuspected survival, retaliation by any means necessary, the journey for revenge which turns him mad in the process, and then finally an ending which completely surprises you. I found myself while reading the Watchmen wishing the Black Freighter was a novel of its own so I could read that independently, so watching the Black Freighter by itself should be quite an enjoyable experience.

Excellent. I truly cannot wait. The comic read to you throughout The Watchmen by Bernie is an outstanding part of the book, and it is so exciting to see it in the form of an animated film. Under the Hood should be interesting to watchtoo, although we only read the first few chapters of the book.
