Rotten: The filmmaker Josh Koury has latched onto a great subject for We Are Wizards, his peek at some of the more engaged fans circulating in the Harry Potter world.
Fresh: [Director] Koury doesn't make any points in We Are Wizards, particularly, but he stylishly shares the love.
Rotten: Among movies about fans' obsessive fixations on fictional universes, the film registers neither as bemusedly distanced as Trekkies nor as dramatically engaged as King of Kong.
Fresh: Ignore the scattershot approach, however, and there's considerable pleasure to be had in spending time with these bizarre enthusiasts and watching the creative ways they find to express their obsessions.

Disappointing
I'm a fan of both the books and movies and listen regularly to PotterCast. I consider myself a non-entrenched member of the fandom and was kind of excited to watch this documentary. I have to say that, unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed. I feel like this documentary, while beautifully shot, missed the mark. It was so disjointed and the filmmaker never really seemed to find a narrative focus. Was this about Wizard Rock or about the larger world of the fandom? If the latter was supposed to be the feature, then there were SO many aspects of the HP community that were overlooked and others that were given WAY too much attention. The Podcasts are a huge aspect of the phenomenon but were given a cursory nod while the man who made audio commentary of the film was made one of the stars of this project. By the way, I'm no prude but the language was completely inappropriate for the audience as the makers of this film HAD to know that kids would want to see this movie. Also, why even get into the whole anti-Potter controversy when this was supposed to be about the fans. Melissa Anelli's book, "Harry: A History," was a MUCH better expose of the world created by the fictional universe of Potter. Use that as your template and you could truly capture cinematically the phenomenon that is the Harry Potter fandom.
Better than a tequila sunrise, dear readers...
I rented this...then I had to buy it! I am a big Harry Potter fan and a collector of HP books. I rented this film, then decided it needed to be a part of my collection. It is a great display of the creativity that Harry Potter has sparked in the minds of young and old...(notice the old lady in the front row of a Harry and the Potters concert in the last montage!). A must have for any true Harry Potter fan. THANK YOU JOSH KOURY AND THANK YOU J. K. ROWLING!
Incredible Eye Into The Harry Potter Phenomenon
This documentary is an incredible account of some of the most connected people in the Harry Potter fandom. It documents thousands of fans' lives for the past few years, and it brings it to life in a whole new way. For people who unfortunately weren't part of it, this is the perfect way to get a sense of what a remarkable impact this Harry Potter era left on people! And the those fans like me out there, it's a way to replay the best time in our lives over and over, as much as we want. I went to the premiere in Boston, and being there with some of the cast and the director was so meaningful. I'm so glad that itunes has recognized this movie. It's definitely one of a kind.
