Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Part of the pleasure of watching a movie like "Welcome to the Punch" is peeling away the multiple layers of inspiration, isolating the allusions and figuring out if they're what works or whether the movie earns a little credit. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Mar 26, 2013

Rotten: A proficient but personality-free policer that demands little of either its audience or its enviable best-of-British cast. – Guy Lodge, Variety, Mar 15, 2013

Fresh: "Welcome to the Punch" is derivative, dumb fun. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Mar 29, 2013

Rotten: Despite its visual polish and fine ensemble, this British police drama is strictly by-the-numbers. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Mar 28, 2013

Quite Good

Those looking for a return to the British crime film world exemplified by Matthew Vaughn's "Layer Cake" will find familiar ground here. The technical aspects of the filmmaker's vision are exceptional, and the director shows real comfort in moving multiple pieces around the film with significant confidence.

Granted, there are a few things that seem a bit rushed in the film, and certain coincidences seem to fall into place a little too neatly at times. That said, I enjoyed the absolute heck out of this film when I rented it, and I will almost certainly purchase it when it becomes available!

Fast Paced Thriller With Just Enough Complexity

This is a fast-paced thriller with just enough complexity. Nicely timed reveals of the twists in the plot. And the end does have an interesting twist in/with the relationship between the two main characters. Worth the $6.99 for sure.

4.5 Stars.

this movie should be available to purchase, good movie to watch!
