Plot Summary

The pioneering trail to Oregon is littered with constant danger. Yet, the hope of the "promised land" keeps American families westward bound despite overwhelming odds. A calm, clear-thinking pioneer (Fess Parker) attempts to lead a wagon train through territory occupied by Pawnees and Sioux. Along the way, the hardy settlers face horse thieves, kidnappers, and unpredictable Indian attacks in their push to establish a new life in the rugged West.

Pan and Scan the Wagons

In what has to be one of the worst examples of pan and scan atrocities, Westward Ho the Wagons is a widescreen victim of a very unsympathetic cropping and a sloppy edit. This movie has been hacked apart a couple times and while this version restores one of the major songs which was cut from the VHS release, there is additional material missing from this issue. The worst offense, however, is the pan and scan which is often just a "center cut" leaving scenes where you're watching Fess Parker's ear conversing with Jeff York's nose...with nothing but wide open country in between. If Disney cared about this release, they would have given us a beautiful remastered widescreen transfer. The only thing that DIsney cares about is taking your money.
